Freedom is another loaded word like love in that freedom is an individual perception. The only truly free person is the person who lives on a desert island, but this comes with a heavy cost. Not only is survival harder, but ones life expectancy is lower. Thus living in a society greatly enhances ones survival needs and life expectancy, but it comes at a smaller cost, which is loss of total freedom. The restrictions of society, however, are minor if one lives in a society that works to hold societal restrictions to their minimum. The important needs to feel free in a society are:
1. Political freedoms, the ability to have some say in who makes up the government.
2. Freedom to have ones basic needs of food, shelter, and security met.
3. Time away from work to have fun.
Any government or corporation that restricts these needs is interfering with the citizens basic needs and is unethical.
