Marriage is a loving partnership of any two people. There are as many reasons for forming the partnership as there are people, but to have a good marriage all partners must want to make the marriage work and be as selfless as they can. They must be best friends. Anytime two or more people live together there must be compromise and a working together for a common goal. Goals can be anything that is agreed on, and can be as simple as have a need for each others help.
When conflicts arise their needs to be a system in place to come to a compromise. If a compromise cannot be reached there needs to be a system, like flipping a coin, to settle conflicts when at a standstill.
Having a marriage when one partner is dominant and the other submissive, like most marriages in the past, and is still true in most places today, can work if the submissive partner is truly happy being submissive. However in most cases where a submissive partner appears to be happy being submissive, they have low self esteem, and are not as emotionally healthy as they could be. If a marriage is in trouble and there are children involved the responsible thing to do is to try counseling before ending the marriage.
