One way to understand this is by 
looking at a TV signal. There is only one TV signal that goes to all of the different houses, with all of the different TVs. The TV is not causing the picture on the screen. The
picture is coming from the signal tower and the TV is just using that signal to make the picture on the screen. Also, if the TV had eyes that could see out into the house it would see a unique environment it would find it's self to be an individual with is own way of thinking.
