The next step is to learn gratitude. Gratitude is becoming aware of all the good in your life. It is easy to dwell on all the little problems in life, which then emphasize the bad. It can be shown statistically that there is as much or more good than bad in most peoples lives, but yet we emphasize the bad. This will program your brain to think more negatively, which will make you unhappy.

Every night before bed journal your day and find at least 5 things that happened that were good. It doesn’t matter how small. I’m dyslexic and every time I figure out how to spell a word I say, “Thank You” in my heart, because I am truly thankful I find the spelling. I do this with everything, and say thank you every time someone does something for me, no matter how small. If you belong to a religion you could say, “Thank You God or Jesus or Buddha or whatever you wish.” When I say thank you I am thinking Consciousness, because Consciousness was what helped me.

Years ago I studied Ben Franklins approach to Conscious Living, which then was called three steps to self-improvement, and on down his Thirteen Necessary Virtues <https://www.journalinghabit.com/journal-tips-benjamin-franklin/>

In the late 1990s I spent a whole day alone in self-reflection working out My Governing Values, which are HERE
