This makes no sense to me. That would be like having two video cameras looking at each other. How is that going to make one of the cameras have self-awareness - be the observer. So, that will never work.

NO, Consciousness cannot be explained from the mechanical workings of the brain. That conscious-ness comes from the brain is just an based on the belief that reality is a machine. There is a different quality about Consciousness, that is beyond circuits or mechanical things. It must be transcendent (out side the brain). But to be scientific we need evidence that Consciousness is transcendent.

Diane Hennacy Powell, MD from her book The ESP Enigma says: "The underlying hope [for scientists] was that consciousness could be understood by studying our gray matter, a belief that is analogous to understanding music by disassembling a CD player,"
